Greatest Inventions – Top Tens List!

Since the beginning of mankind, humans have had the tendency to discover and invent stuff and therefore evolve into better life than the previous generation. The amount of things invented up to the 21st century are uncountable but the degree of technological that has occurred in the past 100 years is huge; most major things that our lives today rely on didn’t exist 100 years ago. Thus, to honour those inventors and their inventions, here is a list of the Top Ten Greatest Inventions in the world of all time:

#10: Microsoft Office

Microsoft Office is a pack of softwares designed by the Microsoft company; such as, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, etc – The latest version of this collection is Microsoft Office 2010 – This is one of the greatest inventions in the world because Microsoft Office was the first computer software that supported text and image writing and editing; however, more advance features such as spell check, table of contents and much more were added as the software released new updates. Despite all that, Microsoft Office is currently the most popular software in text/image writing and ranks 10th in our Top Ten’s List.

Inventor: Bill Gates (Microsoft)   Year of Invention: 1990   Type: Computer Software

#9: Air plane

The dictionary definition of the airplane is, “A powered flying vehicle with fixed wings and a weight greater than that of the air it displaces”; in short, the fastest way of travelling overseas. The air plane has evolved tremendously since its first creation and has proven to be a great invention as it allows travelling accross the world so much faster and comfier. The guess is, in the next 10 years or so, technology might get so advanced that travelling from Europe to North America won’t have to be a 14 hours of pain. Because of all these reasons the airplane ranks as the 8th best invention in our Top Ten’s list.

Air Canada Plane

Inventor: The Wright Brothers (many other theories)   Year of Invention: 1903   Type: Flying Vehicle/Aircraft

#8: Car

Like many other great inventions, the ‘car’ we know today has evolved to what it is today over hundreds of years which is why it’s hard to identify the real genius behind this invention. The first cars built were steam powered and since it was a new invention, there was no such thing as roads and highways. The car racing also began just a few years after the first car model was invented and the first official race took place on April 28, 1887. However, as the technology improved, so did these raw inventions and then resulted in the world we know today with cars and roads and highways. After analyzing all that, it is apparent that cars rank as the 7th best invention in the world.

Cars

Inventor: Karl Benz, Henry Ford (many other theories)   Year of Invention: 1885   Type: Land Vehicle/Automobile

#7: Phone

Most electronics that are daily used in our lives weren’t invented by just person, similarly, the telephone also went through different stages of evolution and currently it has come in cell phone form. The telephone has been adapted by much of the population in the 21st century and now almost every person in the world owns a phone. Due to the amount of use and dependency on phones by us makes it the 7th best invention in the world.

Samsung Dual Sim Card Phone

Inventor: Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison (many other theories)   Year of Invention: 1876   Type: Electronics

#6: Television

Just like many other electronic devices, the television also had many contributors to its current state; some of them include, Nipkow, John Logie Baird, Vladimir Zworykin, and a few more. The reason why the television ranks as the 6th best invention in our list is the fact that over 90% of the world’s population regularly uses and relies on it as their daily entertainment source. The television has also evolved tremendously since it was invented (similar to other electronic inventions), and yet, engineers and scientists are still looking for ways to futher improve on the invention to meet today’s technology level. Despite all those facts, if one still believes that the television doesn’t belong in this list then try living without it.

Samsung Television

Inventor: Nipkow, John Logie Baird (many other theories)   Year of Invention: 1870s   Type: Electronics

#5: Computer

Most of you probably were expecting the computer on this list, that is probably because of the fact that despite how ‘new’ this invention is compared to others, the computer has managed to attract millions and billions of people towards itself and its basically created a whole new world for humans. It could be confidentally said that most of the things that exist in the world today, are only there because of the computer; the internet is a huge example. After undertaking all these amazing facts about this invention, it could be safely said that the computer is (atleast) the 5th best invention in the world.

Desktop Computer

Inventor: Konrad Zuse (many other theories)   Year of Invention: 1935   Type: Electronics

#4: Wheel

The wheel is probably the most important mechanical invention in the history of Earth. It started with the idea of transporting heavy things by placing them on top of tree logs and then role the heavy thing into place. This idea was further improved by the Egyptians and now, thousands of years after the initial invention, in the 21st century, the wheel is being used almost everywhere; for example, cars, motors, and many other mechanical/electrical technology. All in all, despite how old the invention of the wheel is, it is still a very popularly used invention and is the base to many other inventions which is why it ranks as the 4th best invention in our list.

Large Wheel

Inventor: Sumerians, Ancient Egyptians (many other theories)   Year of Invention: 3500 BC   Type: Mechanical

#3: Light Bulb

Like many other electronics listed in this list, the light bulb too was a work of many scientists but the biggest genius behind this invention is the man known by everyone, Thomas Edison. Many people might not agree with the fact that the light bulb is one of the greatest inventions but if you think about it, the world today and more than half of its technology won’t exist today if it weren’t for Thomas Edison. Light bulbs might have not been evolved from their initial state as much as other electronics but regardless, they are pretty much used everywhere; for example, headlight in cars, led light in computers/laptops/televisions, on the road, in your room, in your phone! Imagine living a night without light, not possible, but thanks to Mr. Edison, we don’t have to worry about such things which is why this invention is honored and ranked as the 3rd best invention in our list.

Light Bulb

Inventor: Thomas Edison, Joseph Swan (many other theories)   Year of Invention: 1877   Type: Electronics

#2: Google

Google is probably the most well known thing around the world and despite how new Google is (compared to other inventions in this list), it has managed to attract enough attention to blow away everyone’s mind. Google was originally started as a university project which was a small search engine with a few hundred pages in its directory but now, 13 years after Google was founded, it is a huge company worth billions of dollars, with billions of pages in its directory and attracting hundreds of thousands viewers everyday. When taking all that under consideration, Google is without a doubt a great invention and therefore it ranks as the 2nd best invention in our list.

Google Search Engine

Inventor: Larry Page, Sergey Brin and Backrub   Year of Invention: 1998   Type: Search Engines/Internet

#1: Internet

The internet is a no brainer number 1 invention ever created by mankind and therefore tops our list. Although it could be argued that there would be no internet without all the other inventions but the amount of benefit the internet has done to the world bypasses any invention by huge margin. Currently our world is so dependent on the internet that if it were to shut down, even for a few hours, the world would be a chaos and everything will be ruined. Therefore, there is no arguing that the internet is THE BEST invention in the history of mankind.

Inventor: Leonard K, Licklider, Robert Taylor (many other theories)   Year of Invention: 1960s   Type: Computer Software

*Note: “Many other theories” refers to the fact that there are many other people involved in the invention that might have been not mentioned here because there is no confirm evidence of those people.
